DES MOINES, Wash. – Police are investigating after a body was found at a Des Moines gas station.

A pedestrian walking down Pacific Highway South spotted the body between a wall and a car wash.

“The subject was found face down and was declared deceased, and we do not want to disturb the scene in case there is a crime here,” said police spokesman Bob Collins.

Officers questioned the clerk at the Shell station and interviewed nearby business owners.

There are nearly half a dozen surveillance cameras around the property. Investigators will examine the video and look at any images captured on red light cameras.

“That is one of the first things they will be doing, as part of their investigation, is pulling some of these video to see if there is anything we can find out as far as this person ended up where they are now,” said Collins.

Right now detectives do not know how the 22-year-old Tukwila man ended up face down on the gravel .

“There is no sign of outward trauma,” said Collins. “Until we are going to examine the body fully to indicate if there is any exterior signs of trauma to indicate possibly a homicide, what we have here is a death.”
